A lil about me...
I was born and raised eKomani, formerly Queenstown, in the Eastern Cape. For as long as I can remember, I have always loved food! uMama wam, a true food lover but not quite a fabulous cook (its OK, she was fabulous in many other ways), would let me have my way in the kitchen for hours whipping up concoctions with whatever spices, flours, oils, and liquids I could get my hands on. I would often look up recipes in Drum magazine and make delicious Sunday meals for my mom and I. I experimented with every food item you can think of and my poor mother had to taste it all.
My mom is diabetic so everything I made had to be healthy and sugar-free. I had always grown-up eating organic food, with meals that largely included good carbs and root vegetables. Fast forward 15 years later, organic food and plant-based eating has now become the new food phenomenon.

I was strictly vegetarian for most of my high school and varsity life but soon started eating meat and animal based products. I don't know what I was thinking ( I blame the JHB party scene for this)... but here I am now, having done a complete 360 - with a strictly vegan diet. Now my whole life revolves around food that makes me feel happy, energetic, and nourished.

I became vegan because I've always known that a plant-based diet is the best - I knew this back in high school already because I witnessed the types of food that contributed negatively to my mom's diabetes and animal products played a huge role. I'm no medical expert but I lived with her, I cooked for her and I know that on a bad day - a piece of meat or a glass of milk easily determined how my mom felt for the rest of the day.

Having said that, this is not an anti-meat or anti-animal product blog but rather a journal of my vegan journey - my favourite meals, where to buy the best vegan products, vegan friendly restaurant and old time favourites, made the vegan way.
