Spices and herbs excite me! They definitely enhance my cooking experience. I haven't always had the privilege of a full spice rack - growing up, we mainly made use of mixed seasoning, curry powder, salt, pepper and on a good month, my mom would splurge with a box of Robertsons mixed herbs:) Yum!
Even with the best ingredients that you can get your hands on - it is always the herbs & spices that bring out the natural flavours of any ingredient (well at least I think so) They add salty, sweet, spicy or earthy flavours that bring life to any dish. They add beautiful aromas that make us hunger for the food and also let us recognise the type of cuisine before even tasting it. Below are my all-time favourite for any vegan dish. You're welcome:)
Nutritional yeast - Its cheesy, nutty flavour is perfect alternative to parmesan cheese.
Cumin - Great for chilli and lentil dishes.
Vegetable bouillon - I use this a lot for my mushroom and samp risotto (check meal plans for my recipe)
Turmeric - Best for vegan curries and tofu scrambles/omelettes.
Paprika - Can be used in sweet and savory dishes.
Oregano - My home-made pesto is nothing without oregano.
Rosemary - Simple - rosemary and garlic roast vegetables!
Thyme - Creamy barley mushroom & thyme is the ultimate comfort food.
Basil - Part of my home-made pesto.
All these are available at all major supermarkets, nationwide. There are plenty more of cause but these are my standard go-to flavour boosters.
